Cannabis: An Overview of Absorption, Effects, Detection and Investigations

Many people know cannabis (marijuana) users can test positive many days, weeks or months following last use without knowledge of the underlying biological principals that facilitate the outcome.  In this session, J.S. Held experts Drs. Nadia Moore and Coreen Robbins will discuss the biology of cannabis use that enables its extended detection and why detection persists beyond impairment.  In addition, odorous and health-based exposure concerns in grow operations will be put into context using examples of legal and illegal grow-operations.

Who Should Attend:

  • Attorneys
  • Adjusters
  • Underwriters
  • Risk Managers

What Will You Learn?:

  • What is THC (tetrahydrocannabinol)  is and how its levels in cannabis have changed over time
  • How THC's chemical properties facilitate distribution, effect and excretion profiles that are fundamentally different than those observed with alcohol intoxication
  • How different routes of exposure (i.e., smoking versus eating) cause different impairment onset, duration and recovery durations
  • Results of investigations regarding potential health concerns originating from strong odors associated with current or former grow operations
