Jail/Prison Staff Responsibilities Relating to Medical and Covid19

Presented By: DRI's Governmental Liability Committee

The number of inmates coming into our correctional facilities today with medical issues is alarming.  As the substance abuse problem grows in our communities, and the average age of incarcerated inmates continues to rise, the issues within jails and prisons expands as well.  Unfortunately, in many instances, corrections officers are the first line of defense in determining whether these individuals are assessed and ensuring the “alarm is sounded” when they are in need of urgent care.

Who Should Attend:

  • Jail/Prison Administrators
  • Command Staff or anyone tasked with defending the actions of those leading correctional facilities around the country.

What Will You Learn?:

  • The need for a proper intake screening mechanism and describe the components for an effective process
  • Describe the proper protocol for dispensing meds
  • Explain what “sick call” is and what its used for
  • Look at the current “tsunami” called COVID-19 and how correctional facilities are presently dealing with it
