Premises Liability in The Era Of Widespread Concealed Carry

Presented By: DRI

Over the past several years, legislation nationwide has made it much easier for people to legally carry a concealed handgun. As a result, there are now over 17 million concealed carry permit holders across the country. Possibly as a result of this trend toward loosening concealed carry restrictions, some states have begun legislating liability protections for premises and/or business owners with respect to firearms injuries which occur on their premises. This presentation will discuss this emerging area of law and both the positives and negatives for businesses in states that have these laws.

Who Should Attend:

  • In-house or corporate counsel for businesses who operate physical locations where either employees or the public are present
  • Attorneys who represent businesses in premises related litigation
  • Attorneys who carry concealed weapons or who represent persons who do

What Will You Learn?:

  • An overview of the reasons for expanded firearm premises liability protection statutes
  • Examples of different approaches by different states
  • How firearm premises liability protection statutes can offer protection but also potential pitfalls
