After years of debate, the European Parliament finally adopted the new Product Liability Directive in October 2024. The liability risks for companies placing products on the EU market will increase as a result and it will be easier for consumers to bring claims. The session will focus on the extension of product liability to software and AI including the introduction of new kinds of damages for loss and corruption of data, new defendants such as software developers and online marketplaces and the new consumer friendly approach which places significant burdens on companies placing products on the EU market.
